Bedarieux is a few kms to the charming little town of Clermont l'Herault and its beautiful red hilled lake. Beziers, ancient Languedoc capital city, is a wine production region. Béziers is a bustling town with fascinating shops among its little back streets (les allées), its main boulevard lined with plane trees, the Theatre at one end and the Park des Poetes at the other. Make sure you visit the St Nazaire Cathedral which has panoramic views of the river Orb, vines, and mountains and also the Friday flower market in the main boulevard which is perhaps the best in the whole of the south. Two main interest in this area : English rugby and the Spanish corrida, both of which it follows with a passion. The best time to visit is during the mid-August feria, a raucous four-day party which can be enjoyed even if bullfighting isn't to your taste. Montpellier's city centre – the old town – is small,compact, architecturally homogeneous, full of charm and teeming with life, except in July and August when the students are on holiday and everyone else is at the beach.The place is almost entirely pedestrianised, so you can walk the narrow streets without looking anxiously over your shoulder.
