La Grande Motte is a strange and wonderful place. It was created from scratch back in the 70's - as General de Gaulle wanted to attract some of the growing tide of tourists heading south for Spain.
It's an enormous holiday town, with scores of pyramid-shaped modern holiday blocks (supposedly inspired by the Mayan Indians for some reason!) Prices are quite high, and nearly all the property here is in the form of apartments. The facilities are excellent, with lots of restaurants, an excellent marina and lots of leisure and sports facilities.
If you're interested in property for sale in La Grande Motte, then you're probably buying it as a holiday home (to use and rent out). What you lose in terms of rustic charm and beautiful scenery, you gain in modern conveniences. Montpellier is only 20 minutes away by car, and the lovely walled town of Aigues Mortes is also close by. Languedoc's largest and most wild beach, Espiguette, is also close. As is the Camargue with its flamingos and wild horses.
Property in La Grande Motte is also a good investment. Prices in Languedoc as a whole are still rising fast, and a holiday apartment here is sure to go up in value, as the development is very well managed and kept, and a lot nicer than some of the seaside towns nearby such as Palavas and Carnon.
